John Oliver Explains Why You Should Pay Attention to Your Local Sheriff’s Election
Yeah, sorry, had trouble making a click link to the article/video.
I am hoping that, since the county where we used to live and the county we currently live in both held Sheriff elections this cycle that they were both replaced. But, yeah, he did mention that they keep getting re-elected. Actually what happens is that, most of the time, there is no one who will run against them and there is no place to check (or click if you're using a voting computer) "none of the above" folks are forced to vote to keep these (usually) donkey fedoras in power until they either decide to not run again, die in office (and with some of those, this is a hoped for outcome) or someone actually comes in to run against them.
Our previous county of residence, the man was more enamored of his weekly article in the primary local paper (with his head shoved quite firmly and deeply into his colon) so his second in command actually ran the county. And they seriously abused the stereotype. The local drug ring was headed (and bankrolled) by Pillars of the Community, there was -- at one time -- an alleged meth lab in one of the lumber yards. And we had the Four A$$hats of the Apocalypse. Their collective hobby was domestic terrorism against the local populace. At least one of the deputies had a weed farm on his neighbors property

The last sheriff election I paid attention to was up in SoDak. The local badge was retiring so not running again, and my friend's husband was one of the contenders. He didn't win, but the guy who did was known to be a straight-arrow type, which the old holder of the title was definitely not. Around here, our local sheriff's brigade is pretty decent. Never even heard a subversive whisper about the department.

Police Chief said the officer stopped "because a litany of complaints about illegal dumping". I"m calling unneutered male bovine fertilizer here.
I had to actually watch the video before I figured it out. Some mewling quisling needs to be slapped

Yeah, I heard about that one in a video or two. So stupid! Like, dude, he's at his own house. He can be outside on his own property. Pull in your male appendage, it isn't as impressive as you think.
ETA: Lol! Someone in the comments posted a Dr. Who gif because of the title. I thought it was funny.

The department didn't defend him. They made some wishy-washy statement that won't get them into trouble if the officer sues them for being biased against him while going into an investigation. Like anything else reported on today, will there be any follow-up tomorrow?

The problem with police reform is that larger cities can't use the same strategies as smaller cities and neither can use the strategies adopted in towns. One thing that would help a lot is to either get rid of unions or have the unions revamp to stop protecting miscreant cops, such as the cop who killed George Floyd. That guy had several complaints and no disciplinary actions.

This type of police interaction is, sadly, way too common in Texas counties.

That behavior, they said, only makes it harder to persuade victims to trust police enough to report abuse. That's why bad cops need to be purged. They make victims distrust the force, and they make good cops look bad.
Texas law allows law enforcement to enter a home without a warrant if they have a reasonable fear someone inside is in danger. Not a bad idea. Sometimes a victim is threatened to tell police everything's copacetic and to go away, all the while knowing they'll shut the door and be subjected to more abuse, or worse. The now-retired cop outlined how it's supposed to go. Supposed to. Should.
“He told me he didn’t think I was ‘Team Chody,’” Brogden said. “I told them, ‘It’s not ‘Team Chody.’ It’s ‘Team Williamson County.’ I was embarrassed to say I worked there.” Yup. It's not about personalities, it's about serving the community. Serving a chief or other type in charge - what if that person is corrupt, or becomes corrupt? You serve the community. Period. Full stop, even.
What, no comments? Pigs.

I saw that video. The cop needs to be disciplined if not outright fired and the woman should be able to sue the pants off of him and his department.

I think AK is one of those states where, if she had the money/connections, she could scream how his irresponsible actions (he didn't need to do that, she wasn't doing a Dale Ernheart impression) endangered the life of her unborn child and put that donkey fedora in a sling.

AR is Arkansas. AK is Alaska. Funny story: my old boss, a Canadian whose initials were AK but nobody used them to talk to him, was talking with some of the sales reps and asking what the state designation for Alaska was. I hollered, 'AK!' from my desk in the outer office. Instead of understanding that I meant Alaska, he asked, 'What?', assuming I'd just called him for some reason.
I think she could waltz into a lawyer's office and have representation just by showing that video. What a pile of poop that jerk was. He's being lambasted all over YouTube.
