We got Youngest a queen sized air mattress, rather like that one (but not from Amazon). It lasted not quite a year even though he was sleeping on it alone. It developed a hole that wouldn't stay patched so we wound up getting him a real bed on sale locally.

Yeah, a real bed's best. Just remember, if buying online, to let the mattress rise for four days. Air mattresses are meant for temporary use, not year-round. The second-born and her family will be moving at the end of next month so they're getting things now in anticipation. When the first-born died, the air mattress he was using had some of the compartments inside totally drained of air and some fully filled. We had to get rid of the mattress when we went up.
