Having watched the various "let's put these historians/archeologists here and have them live as if they are in this time period" British documentary series -- Tales of the Green Valley, Tudor Monastery Farm and such, it was interesting to see a bit this from a slightly different lens/angle.
I really like it when random stuff bobs up in my YouTube and its interesting. Or, its Billi!  |

Lol! I like the '________ Farm' series too. My favorites are the ones that drop normal people into past eras, like Coalhouse and Coalhouse: The War Years, and the ever-popular (Year here) House, such as the 1940s house or the 1900s house.

Watched the 1940s House and 1900 House yaren ago on PBS. Haven't been able to find them on YouTube. And in one of those, the young boy in the family did not seem to have really wanted to been part of this "fun family adventure into the past" and responded by refusing to eat anything placed before him and basically forced the family to eat fish and chips way more often than an actual family in that era would have been able to afford to.

I think that was 1900s House. I think that was the one that made the wife look really petty, too. I did love the chickens.
I've found them intermittently on YouTube. They disappear and then show up again. Just search occasionally and you'll turn them up sooner or later. The one I can't find is, I think, Back In Time For Dinner. Maybe. A family goes through the decades of the 20th century. Nice family. The episode about the 1960s was really good in that it totally explains women's exodus from the home. Before, the job of housewife was respected and necessary (besides being very time-consuming - man may work from sun to sun but woman's work is never done) but, with the advent of so many time- and labor-saving devices, women were suddenly 'just a housewife' and done with their job by about noon. With nothing left to do but sit around feeling useless, that caused a movement toward working outside the home, and also fed into the nascent Women's Lib movement. Wish I could find that one again! And of course, given the name, it revolved around food in the family during those decades.
