So, like self-driving cars, only weapons. I'm not on board with self-driving cars and now I extend that to self-arming weapons. War, whether you're for in certain circumstances or against completely, is a human endeavor. Remove humans, it isn't war, it's just agression.

You'd think, after thousands of years of warfare, we'd have come up with a better way to deal with disputes between nations besides killing off our young men and women on an all too regular basis.

As apex predators, we're our only true predator and prey. Warfare has developed to be actually safer over the centuries. Even in the Civil War, we had people dying more from infections from wounds and diseases than from actually being shot. We don't have muscles separated from themselves by sword strikes. People are more protected, and when something comes up that goes back to the older forms of warfare, like the mustard gas in WWI, we back away in mutual horror and craft international laws and conventions against it. Now we have the possibility of human-directed drones fighting rather than people. Today's 'mustard gas' is the automated drones in the article. I can see us backing away as we did a century ago. Hopefully.

What storm shelter are you using to withstand this raging Cat 5 Hurricane of Reeking Feces and is there room in there for me and mine? Cuz I look around at the stupidity of the elected men and women (too many of them having been in office way too long) and think we're gonna need a bigger woodshed and willow grove.

The only shelter I have is stepping back and accessing history. We go too far, reassess as people around the world heap vitriol on us (speaking as any aggressor here, not the U.S. or Germany or China or ), and then back away and make rules and laws forbidding such-and-so practice. Mustard gas in WWI, genocide in WWII, now potentially automated drone strikes. I can't say that it's removing humans from the equation. It's more like removing humanity from the equation.
